Green Schools is an environmental education programme that promotes long-term action for the environment. One of the strands of the SESE programme is Environmental Awareness and Care and through engagement with the Green Schools programme, it is our hope to promote this strand and thus, foster a sense of empowerment and responsibility in our students with regards to their local natural environment.

To achieve these goals we take a whole school approach and every 2 years have a new theme to direct our focus. Our first green flag was achieved through working towards reducing litter and waste in our school and local area. We hope to achieve our second flag at the end of the 2024/25 school year for succeeding in reaching our targets regarding water usage and conservation.

We have a Green Schools committee that is made up of 9 pupils (a representative for each class) and our Green School Co-ordinators. This committee aims to give our pupils a voice in environmental matters within the school.
 
Below are some examples of activities our pupils have taken part in as part of our Green Schools Programme:

• Taken part in the National Spring Clean
• Engaged in the Picker Pals Programme
• Engaged in the Water Wardens Programme
• Promoted sharing second-hand books through the Book Swap Day
• Reduced waste in lunch boxes through using re-usable containers and avoiding single-use packaging as part of Zero Waste Lunch Box Weeks
• Promoted environmental care at home with the help of our Green Schools mascots
