Autumn Adventures at BIGS: Learning Through Our Locality
At BIGS, autumn has been a season of exploration, creativity, and connection with the natural world. Across the whole school, pupils have been engaging in rich learning experiences that bring the beauty of autumn to life
Everyone took part in hands-on activities that celebrated the season. Small world play with autumn-themed materials encouraged storytelling, imaginative thinking, and sensory exploration. Children created miniature woodland scenes, built leaf piles for tiny animals, and used natural treasures like conkers, acorns, and colourful leaves to decorate their play spaces.
Classes also enjoyed nature walks around the school grounds and local environment, observing the changing colours, spotting seasonal plants, and collecting items for classroom displays.
A special highlight was the arrival of a scarecrow in the school garden—a cheerful guardian of our autumn adventures! First Class took the lead in naming her “Sophie”, and their creativity didn’t stop there—they wrote a beautiful poem to celebrate her presence and the season.
